I go for the simple solution: less to get wrong, easier to grasp, and more to wield like a rapier than a club. Much of what I’ve written has been tools for others; and tool steel has to be harder and simpler than what’s built with those tools.
With “spaghetti code” evolving into “lasagna code” in the name of OOP, I prefer functional and orthogonal languages, the terser the better — my first language as a kid was APL.
If you ever run into the following, it’s my email signature as a (math) co-op student working for I.P.Sharp APL Time-sharing … in 1976:
Engineers think equations approximate reality.
Physicists think reality approximates the equations.
Mathematicians never make the connection.
So, anyway, who are you?
